Melting Point of Ice

Deicers are an important part of life in places experiencing cold weather conditions. They prevent road and airplane accidents, and insure unrestricted mobility even in very cold weather. There are many different types of deicers but most are based on the same underlying principles. We want to determine the melting point of Sodium Chloride (NaCl).

This research was undertaken as part of Montgomery Blair High School's chemistry research and experimentation in spring 2006.
